Lipstick/Lip Gloss-How to Find the Right Shade

"If I had to teach someone just one thing about lip color it would be this: Find a lipstick that looks good on your face when you are wearing absolutely no makeup." -- Bobbi Brown

Have you ever stood in a store just staring at the endless variety of lip colors wondering which one was right for you? For years I stood staring endlessly at lipstick wondering how on earth out of all these colors I would find the right one for me and if it would look good. They all stood ready to be picked and looked so pretty how was I to pick one? Turns out that picking the right shade of lipstick/lip gloss isn't as complicated as I was making it for all those years and it only took buying all those horrible shades of lip color to find this out.

Simple Trick to Finding Your Perfect Lip Color:
According to one of my favorite make up artist Bobbi Brown the best way to find the perfect shade of lip color is to pick a tone that is two shades darker than your natural lip color.
To test this out for your self, when you are trying out lip colors just apply lipstick or lip gloss to one lip. This way you can see if the shade you have picked is a shade or two deeper then your natural lip color.
This is great when you can try them on before buying the lip colors , but what happens when your buying lipstick/lip glosses at a department store like Wal-Mart where you can't try them on before buying? All you need to do is trust the color printed box. Hold it up to your lips and assess from there just like you would if you could apply it to one lip.

Picking the Right Shade of Red:
Every woman wants to wear a daring red lip every now and then or everyday. Many wrongly believe that they can't wear red lipstick. The secret to choosing the right red lipstick for yourself is all in the undertones. Those with olive skin can wear fire-engine red, pink skinned girls should go for a cherry red, and girls with a dark skin look amazing in deep reds.

Uh-Oh! Bought a Color and Realized You Hate It?
Don't fret! And most importantly don't waste the money you just spent by throwing the color away. You can still use colors you don't like by blending them with colors you do like. For example if you bought a color that is too bright you can line/fill your lips in with a darker liner and then apply lip color that will help tone down the brightness and create a color you like.

Applying:
I find that when applying lipstick it is way easier to always use a lip brush. This will give you more control of where the color is being applied. When you use the stick its self it is easier to mess up since it is thick.
When using a lip brush all you need to do is twirl open your lipstick and then get color onto lip brush. Then you can apply to your lips re applying color to the lip brush as needed. You can also finish with a gloss if you want a shine to your look.

Using Skin Tone to Determine Lip Color:

Sure picking a shade that is two colors darker then out natural lip color is way easy there is more to the science of choosing lip color.
Fair skinned women look fantastic in lip shades such as nudes with a slight apricot shade, light corals, and pinks. Browns are a no no for this skin tone because it will appear BLAH.
Women with medium skin tones can go darker colors. They look great is colors such as mauves, roses, and berries. When it comes to reds skip the bright fire engine red and try a deep burgundy color instead.
Red, chocolate, or deep plums are fabulous on dark or black skin. In "Confessions of a Beauty Editor," Allure's editor stated " woman with dark skin can go in one of two directions: toward brown or purple. Think caramel or walnut for day, and plum or wine for evening."
There are so many great lip colors out there to choose from and certainly more then I have listed here. Go out and try on as many shades as you can, find the perfect set of colors for you. You can also look through magazines and look at models with you skin tone and what colors they are wearing. Be adventures and expand the selection of lip color you have at home.

Eyebrow Shaping, Trimming, and Styling

Eyebrows are essential for accenting beautiful eyes. Since eyebrows are one of the first things you notice on someone's face it is important to keep them well groomed and find a shape that is right for you. You can tweeze, wax, brush, spray, trim, or pencil your brows, but make sure that what ever it is you do that it works for your face and that you don't over do a technique and end up looking clownish instead of beautiful.

SHAPE: You don't want your brows too thick/ thin or long. You should from a distance be able to see the beginning and the end of your eye brows. If they happen to be thin in some areas you can use an eyebrow tint to create the thick look. You brows should start in line with your inner eye area and continue to the outer corner. It's that easy! Anything between the eyes or past the outer corner should go. You can then create a slight arch to finish the shape of our brows.

TRIMMING: Trimming is a great way to keep up the shape of your brows and it is free and easy as long as your grabbing hair not skin it will be completely painless. Many times people over pluck but the trick in tweezing is not to take more hair than necessary. Take a white eye liner pencil and draw a line for the shape you want and only trim what is under the line. Remember thought that the root may be below the line but the hair is part of the shape you want so be careful not to pluck those hairs.
If you regularly have a lot of hair to pluck then a professional hair waxing will be easiest for you. It's always fast and you can avoid any ugly accidents.

STYLING: After you have shaped and trimmed your brows and they are all groomed you can style them and pay them a bit of attention when you are applying make up. You can use your eyebrow brush to comb the hairs into place of the shape you have created. To keep them in place you can use clear mascara to hold them in them in place for a finished look. You can also tint your eyebrows by using an angled brush and finding a color that matches your brows. You then fill them in and then apply clear mascara to hold the shape all day and night.
Here is my tutorial on tinting eye brows:

There are great brands that put out kits for tinting and creating beautiful eye brows. Here are some:

Take Care of Your Skin This Summer

Summer is upon us and it is HOT! Don't let the heat and sun get to you and your healthy skin. Make sure you are washing you face every morning and night as well as using good hydrating and protecting sunblock.

You can enjoy all your summer activities and still keep your face and skin looking and feeling healthy. Here are some great product to use during summer so you can get your summer glow with out damaging your skin.
Get the nice even summer tan on your face with out subjecting it to the harsh UV rays of the sun. There are great products that are sunless tanners check ULTA and other beauty store for other brands.

Aveeno is a great healthy skin brand and at a great price. Here is their face sun lotion and it is created for you face and to protect and hydrate you skin. There are great face washes and daily lotions as well with the brand and they are all affordable at Walgreens, Walmart. CVS ect.

  • Body lotion is a must durning dry seasons and tanning. Make sure you are taking care of your skin by applying lotion before and after sunbathing.
  • There are so many fashionable hats out there and great beach wear that you should find one that will shade your face as well as make you look fierce.

  • Almonds are great for your skin! They have a high content of Vitamin E so they can nourish you from the inside out. You can also use almonds directly on your face. How you ask? Soak a couple almonds in water over night and then feel their skin so you can grind them into a paste with some milk added. You can then apply the paste to your face like a facial mask for 10-20 minutes and it will help create the glowing skin you wanted to achieve.
  • As weird as this may sound you always want to bathe in cold or luke warm water. Bathing in hot water extracts essential oils in your skin causing it to dry out.

These are just a couple summer helpful tips to save your skin. I hope they are helpful and you see a difference in your skin with following these tips.

This summer has been one of the best I have seen for some great affordable make up that hits on the seasons hottest looks. Beauty doesn't have to be name brand and expensive. I was shopping around ULTA the other day and snagged some great buys.
Many people have no idea that ULTA has an ULTA professionals section in the store with all kinds of make up products and are just as good as the expensive name brands(not just ULTA brand look for ULTA Professionals way different quality). ULTA Professional's line is great for getting cheap but effective beauty products. These are four of my favorite.

ULTA Professional's "Divine Lashes Lash Growth Serum" is a great alternate to spending a lot of money on Latisse or other lash products to help create healthy growing lashes. You apply at night after washing your face to your upper lash line to promote healthy long lashes.

ULTA Professional's "Eye Primer" works great if not better than most high name brand primers. It comes in a nice container that allows you to use a brush to apply. It also dries very fast and holds eye shadow all day long. Most primers run $18- $30 dollars and this one is $12. Can't beat a deal like that.

ULTA Professional's "Pro Hydro Primer" Is one I can compare to Smashbox's "Photo Finish Primer" and it works just the same except adds hydration to your skin for people with dry skin this is perfect before powder foundation for an easy smooth finish. Summers tend to dry us out so this is a perfect primer for your foundation at an unbelievable price.

ULTA Professional's "Professional Secret Weapon Concealer" is perfect for under your eyes to brighten your summer look. You can use it even without foundation to make your eyes pop, hide dark circles and cover and blemishes.
Urban Decay has some great summer must haves and here are my June Favorites:

Urban Decay's "Naked Palette" has 12 gorgeous neutral eye shadows that range from light tans to dark grey/blues with an array glitter, shimmer and matte colors to choose from. This also includes a shadow brush and potion eye primer. You can go from office neutrals all the way to night out sultry smokiness.

Urban Decay's "24/7 Cream Eye Liners" are perfect for achieving this years hottest runway make up trends colorful eyes. Many designers are using colorful popping colors for eye liners and you can look just like the models. There are easy to apply and color last all day and night. There is also a pack for $38 featuring all colors of 24/7 liner.

Urban Decay's "Urbanglow" is a great cream face highlighter. This allows you to accent your facial assets you want others eyes to go toward. Great for cheek and brow bones. There are four shades of Urbanglow and each can be used on any skin tone. Go check them out!

Urban Decay's " Lip-Primer Potion" is perfect this season because bright lip colors are in. It is hard for lip glosses and sticks to stay on. This applied before those will help brighten as well as keep your color on longer.

Finding the Right Eye Shadow For Your Eye Color

Finding eye shadow colors can be challenging. I have many times bought colors that on an everyday basis don't really bring out my eyes. Make-up is an enhancing tool to bring out features in you face and the main feature is your eyes. The best way to bring out your eyes is to find colors that accent them. I always have a color wheel on hand, these can be found at target, paint store, or even quilting. They look like this.
The best part about a color wheel is that you turn it to highlight the color of your eyes or the color your working with to find its accent colors.
Here is an eye shadow color wheel that I worked very hard to find for you!
Another general guideline for eyeshadow application is this - OPPOSITES ENHANCE.
When choosing a dark contrasting color, there are many approaches. Here is one. To further enhance your eye color, choose an accent color that is opposite of your own eye color. The two colors side by side (your natural eye color and the eye shadow) intensify each other instead of competing.
This is where the color wheel comes in handy. Colors on the other side of the color wheel make the best contrast colors. If you have green eyes, select purple, pink, lilac shades. for blue eyes, choose peach, gold and browns with a red or orange undertone to make eyes POP!
The same applies for brown and hazel eyes. Get the picture?

This is most times easier then a real color wheel since the can be very overwhelming if you have never used one.

This wheel is great since on the outer rims it shows you the eye colors.
Here are some tips:
Blue Eyes – Brown Undertones:

Eyeshadow: avoid the obvious use of blues and purples
and focus on warm browns and taupes and soft peaches and pinks.

   Brown Eyes – Blue Undertones:
Eyeshadow: brown-eyed women can experiment with more colors than blue
or green eyes, but look best in rich plums and blues, warm browns,
shimmery caramels and taupes, mahogany and charcoal.

   Green Eyes – Red Undertones:

Eyeshadows: soft purples and peaches, warm, golden browns and taupes.

Hazel Eyes: Depending on whether you want to highlight the green or blue
of hazel eyes, follow the above rules accordingly.

Very Dark Brown/Black: Eyes – Neutral Colors

   Eyeshadow: navy, plums, charcoals browns.

Of course you can slip on the occasional green or blue

shadow, but limit them to special occasion or nighttime looks when you really want to make a dramatic statement.
